Returning to Incredible India….A Photographic Exploration

In the fall of 2012, Bonnie and I joined 18 other travelers on a tour of southern India. I was sure then that I would return someday and set my sights on the north, particularly Delhi, Agra and Varanasi.

At 10:50 PM, Tuesday, October 25, 2016, I board an Air Canada direct flight from Toronto to Delhi, India….13 hours! Fellow photographer, Bishwambhar Dass and I will be spending 2 weeks photographically exploring 9 cities in northern India: Delhi, Varanasi, Agra, Ranthambhore, Bundi, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Pushkar and Jaipur. We’re very excited about the entire trip, but particularly about the evening and early morning shoots at the Taj Mahal, the ghats of Varanasi (riverfront steps leading to the banks of the River Ganges), 3 tiger safaris at the Ranthambhore National Park, the annual Pushkar Camel Fair and the ancient architecture of Jaipur, the ‘Pink City’.

We consider this an exploratory trip, with the goal of offering a photo tour next fall, for up to 10 photographers.

I am very pleased to be using Panasonic’s Lumix mirrorless 4:3 cameras (GH4 and GX8) and lenses (7-14mm, 12-35mm, 35-100mm, 45mm macro) exclusively. Thanks to Panasonic Canada, I’ll also have the opportunity to test their new Leica 100-400mm. I’m looking forward to giving it a good workout during the Ranthambhore National Park tiger safaris and the Pushkar Camel Fair.

I plan to post a daily blog here, so I’m hoping that the hotel wi-fi connections cooperate. I hope you enjoy following our trip through these daily blogs and photos. I’ll be very interested in seeing your comments and feedback. Click on the map below and future photos to see larger versions.

Day 12: November 6 – Jodhpur to Pushkar

OK, I give up!  Regardless of what time I go to sleep, I’m awake too damn early.  My eyes were focusing quite right this morning, so I thought it was 6:32.  Nope, it was 5:32.  […]

Day 11: November 5 – Udaipur to Jodhpur

So much for staying up late and hoping for a later sleep-in.  It was almost 11:00 PM when I shut the lights out, but I was wide awake about 4:30.  Unfortunately, the internet wasn’t awake […]

Day 9: November 3 – Bundi to Udaipur

It’s another sunny, warm, beautiful day in India! We didn’t get moving today until 5:45, so a reasonably good night’s sleep. After breakfast at the hotel, Kamal was there to pick us up at 9:00. […]

Day 8: November 2 – Ranthambore to Bundi
