Not much to report today other than we caught our ride to Heathrow at 7:30 AM, arriving there at 10:00.
Randi was flying out at 12:05, so we got her checked in quickly at the Air Canada Business Class counter and then went with her to the ‘Special Servies’ counter, where she waited for her wheelchair service. She’s milking this one!
Bonnie and I went through security then found Lufthansa’s Star Alliance Gold Lounge, where we killed some time until our flight at 1:45. Unfortunately, our flight was delayed until 2:30, so we had a bit more time to kill. As I was checking our boarding passes, I was suspicious that we weren’t given the seats that we had reserved and paid for. I tried to get that resolved, but was told nothing could be done there and that we would have to wait until we got to Zurich.
Our flight finally left Heathrow and, when we arrived in Zurich, I searched out the Eidelweiss Arlines service counter and got our seating dilemma resolved. Fortunately, I had the receipt in my email showing that we had paid to upgrade to Preferred Economy. We didn’t get the same seats, but we were just a couple of rows up. We boarded the plane about 6:45 for our 7:30 flight to Cape Town.
The upgrade got us more legroom, pillows, blankets, better food, wine (for Bonnie), eye masks and sockets. Not quite Business or First Class, but better than Cattle Car.
