4:00 AM came very early at the Scandic Gardermoen Hotel, at the Oslo airport. I was catching a 7:45 flight to Heathrow, which meant catching the first shuttle bus to the airport. The flight departed on time and, after being in a holding pattern over London for about 15 minutes, landed on schedule at 9:15. My son, Mike, met me in Terminal 5 arrivals and then we drove the 20 minutes or so to Terminal 2 to meet Bonnie and my sister, Randi, who had arrived about the same time as me.
We had a 1.5 hour drive to a country cottage called The Byre, in Ninfield, County Sussex, that Mike had booked. We’ll stay there for 4 nights, with Mike, Jackie and their 2 sons, Oliver (2 yrs.) and Benjamin (3 months).
The last time I was in England was September 2016, shortly after Oliver was born. Bonnie had never met Oliver, other than on FaceTime, so we were excited to see him and to meet our newest grandson, Benjamin.
The Byre is great: 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, large living room and kitchen, sheep in the field adjacent to the yard, with a west exposure.
Despite getting up early and a 2.5 hour flight, my day was easy compared to Bonnie and Randi. They had a 7 hour flight and a long day already, so today was spent sitting around talking, picking up a few groceries, having a chilli dinner and more talking. We were all pretty much done by 10:00 PM.
