Today we were up early getting ready to leave for Lake Windermere by 9:30. We loaded suitcases, clothing, boots, photography equipment, groceries, a portable BBQ, books, maps into a rooftop carrier and a trailer, 2 dogs into ‘the boot’ and us 4 into the car. We left pretty much on schedule and arrived at the cottage, Helm View, for the 3:00 PM check-in. We’ll spend a week here in this large 4 bedroom house more than a cottage, in the town of Windermere. It has a large kitchen and dining area, a very cozy living room, 2 sets of double doors out to a patio and 2 bathrooms and even a play room, with a dart board.
Mike and Jackie are in a bedroom on the main floor, which makes it easy for them to bring the dogs in and out. We’re upstairs in a queen bed with a bathroom just outside the bedroom.
The cottage is located on a hill above the town. We took a drive down to have a look around and pick up a couple of things we needed to make dinner. We parked the car on a steep hill, walked down to Lake Windermere and sat on a bench at the shore enjoying ice cream cones. After picking up a few things at the grocery store, we headed back to the cottage. Jackie took the dogs for a walk, I did some computer work and Bonnie read, while Mike made dinner. We enjoyed an excellent leek tort with green beans, asparagus and boiled potatoes. We’re sure not going to starve this week!
Now it’s 10:20 and time to bring this day to an end. We’re looking forward to beginning our exploration of the area. There are a lot of tourists here, but we expect they’ll thin out by the end of the day tomorrow. There hasn’t been much time for photography yet, but I expect that will start tomorrow.
