Day 14 – Arrivederchi Toscano! Noi Ritorneremo!

Gracious Hosts & Happy Vacationers

Gracious Hosts & Happy Vacationers

It’s a sad day – we’re leaving Italy.  But, it’s always good to be home.  We’ve definitely had conversations about coming back.  We were told by someone, before we left, that you don’t go to Italy just once.

Storm Clouds & Angel Rays

Storm Clouds & Angel Rays

After hearing thunderstorms & heavy rain during the night, we woke to sunny blue skies at the front of the villa.  At the back, the sky was black, but with a very dramatic sky over Foiano – dark clouds with the sun shining through, with lots of ‘angel rays’ lighting up the hills.  As much as I didn’t want rain, I was hoping to get a shot of storm clouds over the Tuscan hills & this was my opportunity.  Still dressed in my flannel pants & a t-shirt, I went to the back of the property to get the shot.  This time, it was without the step ladder, so it wasn’t a clear shot.  The next time here, I’ll ask David about leaving the step ladder set up, or at least close by, for the whole time.

Bonnie & I finished packing, had some breakfast & conversation with C & C, then went over to the main house to say goodbye to David & Cesare.  At 10:00 AM we had the luggage loaded in the car & we were off for the hour long drive to the Florence airport.  We arrived in lots of time, checked in quickly & cooled our heals in the Lufthansa lounge.

Since we were flying to Frankfurt on a Lufthansa regional jet, we had to board a bus to take us to the plane.  We were waiting in the bus for at least 1/2 hour before being driven to the plane.  Departure was delayed about 1/2 hour, as was the arrival in Frankfurt.  Back on another bus for a long drive to the main terminal & then a long walk to concourse B, with about 1/2 hour to spare before boarding.  The flight to Toronto departed & arrived on schedule.  We had booked Classique for the drive to Oshawa & we arrived home about 10:00 PM.  In bed by 10:15.
